    Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz, a former pornographic film actress, was sworn in as a Senator in Colombia. Ortiz, also known as Amaranta Hank, won the seat in the March election after advocating for improved rights and safeguards for adult entertainment workers.

    Omaña began her career as a journalist and then became well-known in the adult film industry as Amaranta Hank.

    She has constantly stated that her former employment should not determine her capacity to serve in public service.

    She has claimed that those who have worked in the sexual economy deserve equal chances and legal recognition, not discrimination and societal stigma.

    According to Infobae Colombia, the senator feels that adult entertainment workers contribute significantly to Colombia’s economy and deserve the same legal protections and dignity as workers in other sectors.

    Personal Life

    Omaña, born in Cúcuta, stated that her legislative concerns go beyond those affecting adult entertainment workers.

    She has committed to advocate legislation that improve mental health care, prevent sexual assault, and boost protections for vulnerable populations throughout Colombia.

    Her election follows months of public attention after she and former adult performer Juan Carlos Florián were assigned to key positions in Colombia’s Ministry of Equality by President Gustavo Petro.
