When I welcomed Kristin Chenoweth to Finding Your Roots, neither of us expected to uncover a theatrical twist worthy of Broadway itself. In a small-town newspaper notice announcing a local production of The Wizard of Oz, we found the name of Kristin’s relative, Billy Eugene Ethridge, cast as none other than the Wizard. As Kristin quickly realized, this was more than coincidence. Growing up, Billy appeared in musical productions, sang in choirs, and immersed himself in performance—long before Kristin would take the stage herself. Genealogy often reveals unexpected echoes across generations. Here, in black and white print, was a reminder that the love of music, theater, and performance can travel silently through a family tree, waiting for its next star to step into the spotlight. 📺 Watch Season 12, Episode 8 of Finding Your Roots on PBS. #FindingYourRoots #HenryLouisGatesJr #KristinChenoweth #WizardOfOz #Broadway #PBS #Genealogy #FamilyHistory #MusicalTheater #roots This program is made possible by viewers like you.
