Are women giving up on dating apps and looking for men at Home Depot instead? A social-media dating trend has women joking—and in some cases actually trying—to meet hardworking, blue-collar men in places like Home Depot, especially around the lumber and home-improvement sections. In this 8 At The Table conversation, the panel reacts to the story of TikTok creator Caitlin Ansari, who decided to put the idea to the test. Instead of swiping on a dating app, she dressed up, went to Home Depot and approached a man she found attractive by asking him to help her find what she needed to hang a picture. And he actually helped her. That leads the table into the bigger question: Are women better off meeting men naturally in the real world instead of relying on dating apps? The theory behind the Home Depot trend is simple: women looking for handy, hardworking or blue-collar men may have a better chance of encountering them somewhere connected to home improvement, construction and the trades. But the table raises another possibility: how many of the men shopping at Home Depot are already husbands, fathers or homeowners? And are women really looking for blue-collar men—or are they looking for the qualities they associate with them: work ethic, masculinity, practical skills, stability and being good with their hands? As dating-app fatigue continues to shape modern dating conversations, maybe meeting someone organically isn’t dead after all. Women: Would you actually approach a man at Home Depot? Men: If a woman walked up and asked you for help, would you know she was flirting—or would you genuinely think she needed help hanging a picture? Join the conversation in the comments.
