Zazie Beetz is set to star in Matt Ross’ upcoming feature ‘Kockroach,’ alongside Chris Hemsworth, Alec Baldwin, Taron Egerton, and Rachel Sennott.

While plot details remain undisclosed, the film—based on William Lashner’s 2006 novel of the same name—is set in New York and follows a mysterious stranger who rises through the city’s criminal underworld, transforming into a larger-than-life power player. Lashner’s novel reimagines Franz Kafka’s classic ‘Metamorphosis,’ in which a man awakens to find himself transformed into a cockroach, hinting at a supernatural element in the film.

Ross will direct from a screenplay by Jonathan Ames, with revisions by Ross. Andrew Lazar and Christina Weiss Lurie produce, with Black Bear continuing international sales at the upcoming Cannes market. CAA Media Finance and Range Select will co-represent domestic rights.

Filming is set to begin in Australia next week.
