The incident occurred late in the title clash at the Etihad Stadium, where Gabriel appeared to move his head towards Haaland after the pair squared up during an intense duel.

    VAR backs referee decision

City players and staff called for a red card, viewing the action as a headbutt. However, the referee’s on-field decision was reviewed by VAR and upheld.

In an official statement, the Premier League confirmed the reasoning behind the call.

The decision ensured Arsenal finished the match with 11 players despite strong protests from the home side.

    Flashpoints define heated contest

The clash between Gabriel and Haaland was one of several physical battles throughout the game, with the Arsenal defender tasked with closely marking the City striker.

Earlier, Haaland was left frustrated after his shirt was torn during another challenge involving Gabriel, forcing him to change kits.

Tempers flared as both players reacted to repeated physical contact, highlighting the intensity of a match with significant title implications.

Result adds pressure in title race

Haaland ultimately had the final impact, scoring the winning goal as Manchester City secured a 2-1 victory to move within three points of Arsenal with a game in hand.
