A Nigerian woman has raised concerns online after recounting her experience with a private hospital in Lagos, where she claims she was asked to make an additional payment before her medical test results could be explained.

The woman, identified as Tobi, a marketer, shared her ordeal on social media, sparking reactions from users who questioned the cost of healthcare services in the country.

    Breakdown of Medical Expenses

According to Tobi, the incident occurred at a hospital located in Adeniyi Jones, Ikeja, Lagos, where she had initially gone to consult a gynaecologist.

She explained that she paid ₦23,766 for registration and ₦119,000 for consultation.

In addition, she spent approximately ₦340,000 on medical tests, bringing her total expenses to about ₦482,766, excluding transportation costs.

After waiting nearly a month for the test results, she returned to the hospital expecting to receive an explanation from the specialist.

    Additional Fee Sparks Outrage

However, Tobi alleged that she was informed she needed to pay an extra ₦64,000 before a gynaecologist could interpret the results.

Expressing her frustration, she said, “I almost lost it with them! They said it’s the policy.”

She added that she could not afford the additional fee and requested that the hospital send her results via email instead.

Tobi described herself as “heartbroken and disappointed” by the experience, noting that she had already spent a significant amount on her healthcare.
