The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has rejected claims that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations could be moved or postponed, restating plans to stage the tournament in East Africa.

Concerns had emerged over whether the competition, scheduled to be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, would go ahead as planned due to reported infrastructure challenges.

CAF insists tournament remains on track

CAF president Patrice Motsepe dismissed speculation earlier this year, stating that reports of a possible delay “have no basis in truth.”

The governing body maintains that the tournament will be held in the summer of 2027 across the three host nations.

    Infrastructure concerns raise doubts

Reports had suggested that stadium readiness and infrastructure limitations could affect preparations, with questions raised about hosting a 24-team tournament across multiple cities.

These concerns intensified following claims that CAF had issued warnings to the host nations regarding meeting required standards.

‘No intention to move’ – CAF official

As reported by GOAL, CAF media official Luxolo September reiterated the organisation’s position, confirming there are no plans to relocate the tournament.

“There is no intention to move the tournament to another place, as it represents an exciting opportunity for CAF to expand into new markets in East Africa,” he said.

He added that CAF is working closely with the three host countries and their governments to ensure readiness, with ongoing monitoring of progress.

    Preparations continue amid scrutiny

A CAF delegation, led by secretary general Samson Adamo, is expected to visit Uganda as part of continued coordination efforts.

Despite lingering concerns, CAF has reiterated its commitment to delivering the tournament as scheduled, while also confirming that future editions will follow a four-year cycle starting from 2028.
