5.18.2026 #TheOtherSideOfChange: Black Femicide, Accountability, and the Violence Men Are Taught In this week’s episode of The Other Side of Change, Jamira Burley and Brea Baker confront the growing crisis of violence against Black women at the hands of intimate partners and the systems that continue to fail them. They connect the rise in Black femicide to patriarchy, entitlement, toxic masculinity, and the normalization of violence inside homes that are supposed to be safe. The conversation pushes past surface-level responses about mental health and asks harder questions about accountability, prevention, and why Black women are so often left carrying both systemic violence and personal violence at the same time. From the invisibility of Black femicide in policy and media to the lack of meaningful intervention and protection, the episode centers the urgency of treating this as a public crisis instead of isolated incidents. Richie Reseda joins the show to talk about transformative justice, community accountability, and the work Black men must do with one another to interrupt violence before it escalates. Drawing from his experience organizing inside and outside prison, he lays out what accountability can actually look like in practice and why real change has to happen inside communities, not just through punishment or policy alone.
