    Columbia, S.C. – Benedict College has been recognized among the Best Colleges in South Carolina for 2026 by Research.com, earning distinction as a Best U.S. College Award recipient for excellence in multiple academic disciplines. The College was honored for its outstanding degree programs in social work, computer science, criminal justice, engineering, and finance.

    This recognition is part of Research.com’s newly released 2026 Best Colleges rankings, which highlight America’s top institutions based on quality of education and affordability. The rankings are derived from an extensive analysis of data from trusted sources, including Peterson’s, IPEDS, and the College Scorecard, with attention to factors such as overall academic quality, cost, demand, and time to degree completion.

    Dr. Janeen Witty, Vice President of Academic Affairs emphasized the significance of the ranking across multiple disciplines. “Research.com’s evaluation speaks directly to the strength and relevance of our academic programs,” she said. “Our faculty continuously align rigorous scholarship with real-world applications, ensuring that Benedict graduates are prepared to lead and serve in a rapidly changing global society.”

    Department leaders echoed that sentiment, highlighting the distinctive strengths of their programs.

    “Our social work program is deeply rooted in community engagement and social justice,” said Dr. Eunika Simons, Chair of Social Work. “Benedict’s Social Work program prepares students to serve the communities that need us most, with rigor, cultural competence, and a commitment to justice. As a CSWE-accredited program, we hold ourselves to the highest professional standards, and this recognition reflects our faculty’s dedication to serious, purposeful teaching and the students who rise to meet that standard every day.”

    These recognitions underscore the quality of Benedict College’s curriculum and experiential learning opportunities, which prepare our students for leadership roles in all areas.

    Dr. Scott Dunn, Chair of the Engineering and Computer Science department, noted the growing demand for technology leaders. “Our program equips students with cutting-edge technical skills while emphasizing innovation and ethical responsibility.     He also noted that engineering students benefit from rigorous coursework, applied research, and mentorship that prepare them to solve real-world problems. Being recognized nationally reinforces the strength of our approach.

    “Within the Tyrone Adam Burroughs School of Business and Entrepreneurship, we are intentional about preparing students with the analytical and technical skills needed to compete in today’s financial and economic landscape”, added Dr. Tracy Harrell Dunn, Dean of the Tyrone Adam Burroughs School of Business and Entrepreneurship. “This recognition reflects the strength of our faculty, the relevance of our curriculum, and our continued focus on developing graduates who are equipped for careers in finance.”
