Las Vegas isn’t losing A’ja Wilson anytime soon.

The four-time MVP and the Aces agreed to a three-year, $5 million supermax contract on Wednesday, the richest deal in WNBA history, after Wilson made it clear at USA Basketball camp last week that testing free agency was never on her radar.

“I love Vegas. I’m not leaving Vegas,” Wilson told reporters at the camp after this month. “I’m looking to win another one. I’m looking to defend a championship that we have in Las Vegas. Everything else just kind of falls in line.”

The contract, negotiated by her agent Jade-Li English of Klutch Sports Group, is fully guaranteed. The Aces confirmed the signing without disclosing financial terms, which were first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania and Andraya Carter. Wilson will earn $1.4 million in the upcoming season, up from the previous supermax ceiling of $250,000 under the old collective bargaining agreement. The more interesting part is years two and three, when her salary will scale to equal 20% of the team’s total cap. As the league grows, so does her paycheck.

At 29, Wilson is coming off one of the most dominant stretches in WNBA history. She won her fourth MVP award last season, becoming the first player in league history to do it, and averaged 23.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.3 blocks across 40 games while leading Las Vegas to its third championship in four years. The Aces weren’t even a sure thing at the All-Star break that year, sitting at .500 before closing the season on a 16-game run.

In a statement, Aces president and GM Nikki Fargas said Wilson had “surpassed almost every record in existence” and that she carries herself through all of it with authenticity and grace. “A’ja is truly one of one, who has led this franchise to where it is today,” she continued.

Las Vegas drafted her first overall out of South Carolina in 2018 and she hasn’t been anywhere else since. Two Finals MVP trophies, three championships, seven All-Star appearances and three Defensive Player of the Year awards later, she is the most decorated active player in the league, period.

Wilson is one of only two players in the league on a supermax, and the only one with a multi-year deal. With Wilson back under contract, Las Vegas heads into the new season with most of its championship core intact.

The Aces also signed guard Chennedy Carter to a training camp deal on Wednesday, as Las Vegas continues building around the player they just committed $5 million to keep.
