Neymar and Thiago Silva have been included in Brazil’s 55-man provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while injured Estevao has missed out.

New Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti named an extended list ahead of the tournament, with only 26 players expected to make the final squad for the competition in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Estevao was ruled out after suffering a hamstring injury during Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Manchester United last month.

Former Chelsea coach Liam Rosenior had earlier revealed the teenager was emotionally affected by the setback.

“He was devastated” and “crying at half-time,” Rosenior said after the match.

    Injury blow ends Estevao’s hopes

The 19-year-old forward had remained hopeful of recovering in time for the tournament and returned to Brazil for treatment with former club Palmeiras.

Reports in Brazil claimed the youngster avoided surgery, although a further setback in his recovery eventually ended his chances of selection.

Estevao had emerged as one of Brazil’s brightest young talents after becoming the first player aged 18 or younger to score four goals for the national team since the 1960s.

Despite an inconsistent debut season in England, he managed eight goals and four assists in all competitions, including standout performances against Barcelona and Liverpool.

Neymar returns as Brazil finalise plans

Neymar’s inclusion comes despite the forward struggling with injuries over the past three years. The 34-year-old has not featured for Brazil since 2023.

Veteran defender Thiago Silva also earned a place in the preliminary squad after helping Porto win the Portuguese league title this season.

Meanwhile, Rodrygo and Éder Militão were omitted through injury.

Brazil will begin their World Cup campaign against Morocco on June 16 before facing Haiti and Scotland in Group C.
