    The collection’s DNA was forged in the design lab, but its true identity was revealed during a high-stakes fabric test that became a defining moment for Déjà Clark’s journey. In the latest episode of The Intern Diaries, Déjà was blindfolded and challenged to identify Aéropostale’s signature textures using only touch. What could have been a simple test quickly became a powerful reminder of the value of trusting instinct, creativity and perspective. The six-part docuseries that has pulled back the curtain on Aéropostale’s heritage pivot. The result? A 71-piece capsule that’s heavy on Y2K nostalgia, street-ready proportions, and authentic archival grit.

    The pitch initially caught Robyn Katz, Aéropostale’s SVP and Chief Merchandising Officer, off guard. 

    “Are you an intern pitching me… your own line?” Katz asked. But after seeing the vision, the verdict was unanimous: “It’s brilliant. I love it.”

     Déjà didn’t just pass the challenge, she transformed the moment into a statement.

    Her ability to translate a feeling into a vision showed the kind of emotional connection that today’s fashion consumers are searching for.

    As she ran her hands across a light blue swatch, she immediately described the texture as “Cloud.”

    When she reached for a deep maroon fleece, she called it “Butter soft.”

    That moment spoke to something bigger than fabric. It represented the power of women bringing their ideas to the table, trusting their voices and challenging traditional expectations. Déjà’s journey from intern to creative collaborator highlights how fresh perspectives can reshape industries when people are given the opportunity to be heard.

    That intuitive connection to texture, storytelling and culture gave Déjà the confidence to take her vision beyond the design room and pitch the Aéropostale C-suite on a collection built from her own creative lens.

    “When I was blindfolded, I saw this big star that was 3D and fluffy and [butterfly-like],” Déjà told executives. “I feel like this could be a really cool character for my own line.”

    The Aesthetic: Big Pants, Small Shirts, No Rules

    The rest of the 71-piece collection pays homage to the beautiful chaos of early-2000s fashion. From low-rise micro skirts and shorts that embrace the carefree confidence of the era to tiny fitted baby tees and “butter soft” fleece pieces that bring back the classic first-day-of-school energy, every piece feels intentional yet nostalgic.

    The collection also reflects a major part of Y2K fashion’s original appeal: accessibility. With prices starting at $19.95, Déjà made sure the capsule remained rooted in everyday style rather than feeling out of reach. It’s a collection built around real wardrobes, real moments and real people, the kind of pieces she and her friends would actually wear.

    “It’s the stuff my friends and I actually want to wear,” Déjà shared, a statement that perfectly captures the collection’s mission: bringing nostalgia back while keeping it authentic to the generation wearing it now.
