    Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong will be among the African football legends involved in Tuesday’s draw for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifiers.

    Troost-Ekong, who captained Nigeria to a runner-up finish at AFCON 2023, will participate alongside former Ivory Coast winger Max-Alain Gradel, legendary Egypt goalkeeper Essam El Hadary and DR Congo icon Trésor Mputu.

    The draw ceremony is scheduled to take place at the headquarters of the Egyptian Football Association in Cairo.

    East Africa prepares for historic AFCON return

    The 2027 tournament will mark the return of the Africa Cup of Nations to East Africa for the first time in 51 years.

    Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania will jointly host the competition from June 19 to July 17, 2027.

    A total of 48 countries will compete in the qualification campaign, with the draw producing 12 groups. Twenty-four teams will eventually qualify for the finals, although the three host nations have already secured automatic qualification spots.

    Super Eagles set to discover qualification opponents

    Three-time African champions Nigeria will learn their qualifying opponents during Tuesday’s draw.

    Nigeria finished third at the previous AFCON tournament in Morocco and remain in search of a first continental title since their 2013 triumph in South Africa, where they defeated Burkina Faso in the final.
