Google’s Made by Google event will take place on August 12, 2026, and the Pixel 11 phones will get most of the attention. Your Pixel Buds Pro 2 are due for an update too. Google is skipping a new generation this year and giving the earbuds a colour refresh instead.

This guide separates what Google has confirmed from speculations, so you know what to expect before the event.

Has Google announced anything about the Pixel Buds Pro 2?

Google has kept quiet on the earbuds so far. The event invite only teases the next generation of Pixel and does not mention the Pixel Buds Pro 2 by name.

A few leaks point to what is coming, though.

    • A dark green version of the Pixel Buds Pro 2 showed up in a pulled Amazon listing, according to 9to5Google.
    • The same shade had already appeared on Google’s Play Store rewards page for a few weeks before that.
    • Leaker Evan Blass shared close-up images of the dark green earbuds as part of a Pixel 11 Pro Fold leak, and 9to5Google says they look identical to the current model except for the colour.
    • Android Authority reported that the new shade is darker than the green colour shown on the Pixel 11.

There is no Federal Communications Commission (FCC)  filing tied to new earbud hardware for 2026, which supports the idea that this is a colour update rather than a new model.

When will the Pixel Buds Pro 2 update release?

Google is expected to announce the new colour at the event on August 12. If the rollout follows last year’s pattern, you can expect preorders to open the same day, with the earbuds going on sale about a week or two later.

Here is how the last few years have played out.

    • The original Pixel Buds Pro launched in July 2022.
    • The Pixel Buds Pro 2 launched in 2024 with a full spec upgrade.
    • Google added the Moonstone colour in 2025 instead of a new generation.
    • 2026 looks set to follow the same pattern, with a colour update rather than a Pixel Buds Pro 3.

A true next-generation model looks unlikely before 2027.

How much will the Pixel Buds Pro 2 cost?

The current Pixel Buds Pro 2 sells for $229 in the US, £219 in the UK, and €249 in the EU. That price has held since the earbuds launched in 2024, and it remained the same through the Moonstone colour launch in 2025.

Pricing for the new dark green colour has yet to be confirmed by any approved source. Android Authority notes that it remains unclear if the price will stay the same.

This is worth watching closely. Google has raised prices across the Pixel lineup this year because of rising memory costs. Speaking to 9to5Google, Google’s VP of Devices and Services Shakil Barkat said the price of 1GB of LPDDR5X RAM jumped from $2.80 in 2025 to $12 in 2026, and that the entire Pixel family would see price adjustments as a result. The Pixel Watch 5 already saw its price rise from $349 to $399 for this reason. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 could see a similar increase, though this remains unconfirmed.

What are the specs of the Pixel Buds Pro 2?

Since this seems like a colour update, the specs on the new earbuds should match the current Pixel Buds Pro 2 model.

    • Chip and sound: A custom Tensor A1 chip powers the earbuds, paired with an 11mm dynamic driver. Google says noise cancellation is twice as strong as the original Pixel Buds Pro.
    • Battery life: You get up to 8 hours with noise cancellation on, or 12 hours with it off. The charging case adds up to 30 hours with noise cancellation on, or 48 hours off. A 5-minute charge gives you about 1.5 hours of listening time.
    • Durability: The earbuds carry an IP54 rating, and the case is rated IPX4 for splash resistance.
    • Connectivity: You get Bluetooth 5.4, multipoint pairing so you can switch between devices, Fast Pair, and Auracast support through a software update.
    • Codecs: The earbuds support SBC, AAC, and Opus. They do not support hi-res codecs like LDAC.
    • AI features: Gemini is built in, along with Conversation Detection and gesture controls that let you nod or shake your head to respond to calls.
    • Fit and design: Each earbud weighs about 4.7 grams and comes with a twist-to-adjust stabilizer for a secure fit.
    • Colours: You can currently choose from Porcelain, Hazel, Wintergreen, Peony, and Moonstone. The new dark green shade would join this lineup.

Google does not include heart rate or fitness tracking on the Pixel Buds Pro 2, so treat any claim about health sensors as unconfirmed.

Pixel Buds Pro 2: current model vs the new colour

The table below lines up what you get today against what is expected to change.

    What we still don’t know

    • What the new colour will cost you.
    • Whether it replaces an existing colour or joins the current lineup.
    • What Google will officially call the new shade.
    • Whether a software update ships alongside the colour.

You will get clear answers to these once Google takes the stage on August 12.
