Hyundai confirms that the IONIQ 3, its inaugural compact electric hatchback, is generating unprecedented consumer demand ahead of its launch later this year. Positioned as a smaller and more accessible alternative to the popular IONIQ 5, the striking new model recently made its first public "on the road" appearance. Enthusiasts caught a glimpse of the vehicle in action during the Hill Climb event at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Dealerships are already preparing for the influx of buyers, with UK entry-level Standard Range models appearing for as low as £22,245 GBP (approx. $29,714 USD).Built on a cost-effective 400V architecture version of the proven E-GMP platform, the EV offers two distinct battery configurations. Drivers can choose a 42.2 kWh pack that provides up to 213 miles of WLTP range or upgrade to a 61 kWh pack delivering up to 308 miles on a single charge. Rapid DC fast charging allows the standard battery to replenish from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 29 minutes. The long-range version requires just one additional minute to reach the same capacity.Despite exterior dimensions that measure slightly smaller than contemporary segment rivals, the IONIQ 3 "Aero Hatch" design maximizes cabin space. The interior boasts an impressive 441 liters of luggage capacity while housing a heavily tech-focused environment. Drivers operate the new Android Automotive-based Pleos Connect infotainment system through either a 12.9-inch or 14.6-inch center screen. The setup also integrates a Gleo AI companion alongside physical climate and audio controls to ensure an intuitive user experience. The aggressive pricing strategy aims to expand electric driving to a much broader demographic. Hyundai Motor UK president Ashley Andrew noted that the sheer volume of early inquiries highlights a massive appetite for attainable and well-equipped battery-powered vehicles. Currently designed and manufactured exclusively in Europe, the manufacturer has no immediate plans for a North American release. Steep import tariffs and a historical regional preference for large SUVs make an overseas launch highly unlikely.
