The Black-founded membership club The Gathering Spot has closed its Los Angeles location, according to AfroTech.

The Gathering Spot closing its LA location

Co-Founder and Gathering Spot CEO Ryan Wilson said in an email addressed to its members that the LA location is shutting down after failing to reach an agreement with the property’s landlord to resolve ongoing issues. The West Coast location experienced flooding that halted elevator operations and created an ongoing odor, according to Wilson. But he is already looking for a new location in LA.

    About The Gathering Spot

The Gathering Spot is a private membership network focused on the Black community and was created to help its members build connections and gain business experience. Ryan Wilson, a Georgetown Law School attendee, and TK Petersen, a former Portfolio Manager at Fannie Mae, co-founded the membership club.

Their goal was to foster a community that would gather a diverse mix of individuals, including entrepreneurs, creatives, executives, filmmakers, politicians, venture capitalists, lawyers, musicians, and artists. They intended to create an environment for people to come together, reflect, and engage with their community under one roof.

In 2025, it announced its most ambitious plan to date: a 60,000-square-foot space in Atlanta called The Retreat. The new space features a rooftop pool, co-working spaces, and two restaurants, which will cost members $3,100 for an annual membership.
