S.B. Fuller built one of the most influential Black-owned beauty empires in America, creating thousands of entrepreneurs before controversy, boycotts, and a changing market threatened everything he had built. This documentary explores the extraordinary rise and decline of S.B. Fuller and Fuller Products, one of the most important Black-owned businesses of the 20th century. Born in Louisiana during the Jim Crow era, Samuel B. Fuller eventually built a nationwide cosmetics and personal care company by serving Black consumers that mainstream American corporations had largely ignored. But Fuller Products was much more than a beauty company. Its door-to-door sales network gave thousands of Black Americans business training, income opportunities, and a path toward entrepreneurship. Future business leaders including George E. Johnson and Joe Dudley developed important skills through Fuller's organization before building companies of their own. By the 1950s, Fuller had become one of America's most prominent Black businessmen. Then public comments during the Civil Rights era triggered intense criticism and calls for boycotts of Fuller Products. At the same time, competition increased, consumer behavior changed, and the business model that had powered Fuller's rise became harder to sustain. This is the story of S.B. Fuller, Fuller Products, Black entrepreneurship, the Black beauty industry, economic independence, and the complicated legacy of a businessman who helped create a generation of entrepreneurs even as his own empire declined. #SBFuller #BlackBusiness #BlackEntrepreneurs #BlackWealth #BusinessHistory #TheBlackWealthExplainer
