ATLANTA — Fresh off a hard-fought victory on the Zeus Network undercard at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, Ray J is already channeling his fight-night energy straight back into the recording studio. Stepping out of the ring with a championship belt slung over his shoulder after defeating Orlando Brown on the preliminary card for the Claressa Shields fight, the multi-hyphenate entertainer revealed that his performance in the squared circle immediately sparked fresh creative motivation.

The victory marked another distinct chapter in Ray J’s sprawling, decades-long career across the entertainment landscape. Long before stepping between the ropes, Ray J established a deep multi-decade footprint across television, film and R&B, maintaining a constant presence in mainstream pop culture since his childhood.

His television and film journey began early. Landing commercial gigs at age eight led directly to his first major television role as L.J. Beckley on The Sinbad Show. He quickly transitioned into feature films, appearing in Tim Burton’s sci-fi comedy Mars Attacks! and alongside Shaquille O’Neal in Steel. His mainstream breakout came when he joined the hit UPN series Moesha as Dorian “D-Money” Long alongside his sister Brandy, later securing a main role on UPN’s One on One as Darrell “D-Mack” McGinty. In the reality television era, he anchored major ratings draws including VH1’s For the Love of Ray J, Brandy & Ray J: A Family Business and Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood.

Parallel to his screen career, his music catalog produced defining R&B anthems across generations. His debut single “Let It Go” for the Set It Off soundtrack cracked the Billboard Hot 100 top 40 in 1997, paving the way for a steady stream of chart hits. He scored major chart records with the Lil’ Kim collaboration “Wait a Minute,” the Rodney Jerkins produced classic “One Wish,” and the runaway smash “Sexy Can I” featuring Yung Berg, which climbed all the way to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. His fourth studio project, All I Feel, debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 while topping the U.S. Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, solidifying a lasting musical legacy that continues to inform his work today.

Speaking backstage with ScoopB.com following his hand being raised, Ray J reflected on balancing his extensive resume across music, acting and combat sports. When asked how he plans to translate his intense ring presence back into the recording booth, the singer made it clear that despite the physical battle he had just endured, his family remains his primary muse and ultimate driving force.

“I would make a remake to ‘Melody,’ which is dedicated to my daughter,” Ray J shared with me while clutching his newly won championship belt. He pointed to a deeply personal pre-fight moment with his children as the true foundation behind his performance, noting how his daughter serenaded him before his dramatic walkout. “She’s the one that sang ‘Eye of the Tiger,’ the song called ‘Roar’ from Katy Perry, before I was walking out to fight. Her and my son were the most inspirational.”

For Ray J, the adrenaline rush of combat sports appears to fuel his artistry in unexpected ways. Rather than riding the momentum of his victory toward a traditional boastful rap track or a generic fight anthem, he revealed that his immediate post-fight focus is crafting deeply reflective records centered on fatherhood. The mental toughness required to step inside the ring, according to the singer, directly connects to his desire to leave a lasting legacy for his family.

“I would do ‘Melody Part 2,’ and then I would do a song about my son,” he declared with complete certainty before heading toward the locker rooms. “So I’m gonna do that tonight, and then I’m gonna drop it.”

By pairing his athletic efforts with his devotion as a father, Ray J proved that his motivation extends far beyond individual accolades. Whether he is stepping inside the boxing ring under the bright lights of a packed arena or stepping up to the microphone in a late-night studio session, his children remain the ultimate driving force behind his biggest moves.
