At the premiere of ‘On Different Grounds’, the conversation quickly moved beyond the screen and into a generational debate as the cast discussed love, patience, and when to walk away.

Mildred Okwo’s new family drama stars Jennifer Eliogu, Bob-Manuel Udokwu, Nkem Owoh, Uche Montana, Uche Jombo, Bamike ‘Bambam’ Olawunmi, Ifeanyi Kalu, Vineet Raina, Ebele Okaro, Abena Akuaba, Fadekemi Olumide, Oseloka Mbadiwe, Ozumba Mbadiwe, Nimesh Diliprai, Maggie Osuome, Kobi Ndigwe, Victoria Azubogu, Egemba ‘Aproko Doctor’ Fidelis, and Anthonia Okojie.

Speaking on relationships, Jennifer Eliogu drew a clear line between her generation and younger audiences. While older partners often stayed through difficulty, she suggested, younger people are quicker to leave. “If it’s not working… you’re walking,” she said, framing a shift from endurance to boundaries.

That contrast played out in real time. Bamike ‘Bambam’ Olawunmi pushed back with a more romantic stance: “Love is worth fighting for. The heart wants what it wants.” Actor Ifeanyi Kalu echoed that sentiment, rejecting the idea that being emotionally open is a flaw. “It is not a crime to be a lover boy,” he said.

But Eliogu’s perspective added weight to the cost of patience. She pointed to emotional and psychological strain that often came from staying too long due to societal expectations and the fear of judgement. For her, what was once seen as strength can also become a trap.

Bob-Manuel Udokwu expanded the conversation through his character, an affluent, self-assured man whose marriage is strained by ego. He described a familiar dynamic: success, control, and the inability to let go. “Life is not a one-way road,” he said, suggesting that both men and women eventually confront the limits of power and pride.

Across the cast, ‘On Different Grounds’ emerges as a film rooted in conflict between characters and generations navigating love differently. Whether it’s staying, fighting, or leaving, the film’s central question feels more like a reflection of how relationships are being redefined in real time.

‘On Different Grounds’, produced by Nicole Ndigwe through HB&Q Impressions and distributed by Cinemax, is now showing in cinemas.
