    Oluwatoyin Ogundipe (born May 31, 1960) is a Nigerian academic and a professor of botany. He served as the University of Lagos’ 12th vice-chancellor from November 2017 until November 2022.

    President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Professor Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe, the Chairman of the National Universities Commission’s Governing Board.

    The appointment was announced on Monday in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

    Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe was born on May 31, 1960. He attended the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) and earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in botany.

    He has a master’s degree in botany from the University of Ife and a doctorate (Ph.D.) from the same university. He later earned a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Lagos.

    Career

    He was named vice-chancellor of the University of Lagos in November 2017. Until his appointment in November, he served as the University of Lagos’ deputy vice chancellor.

    Ogundipe was ousted as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos by the university’s governing board after being accused of financial irregularities and serious misconduct.

    He was, however, reinstated by President Muhammadu Buhari following the advice of an investigative team, which determined that the dismissal was not done in accordance with due process.

    President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has selected Professor Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe to chair the National Universities Commission’s governing board.

    He succeeded Emeritus Professor Olufemi Raphael Aina, who resigned after less than a year in office. President Bola Tinubu appointed Professor Aina in July of last year, and the board members will be inaugurated in November 2025.

    Ogundipe is married with three children.
