Nigerian students studying in Russia under a bilateral education agreement have raised concerns over their welfare, claiming they have been abandoned by the government.

The students, who are pursuing courses in medicine and engineering, said they have not received stipends since September 2024, leaving them in difficult financial conditions.

According to them, the situation has forced many into low-paying jobs, including construction work, just to survive.

They have appealed to Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene and address their situation, calling for the release of their allowances and improved support.

    One of them said …

“We are Medical and Engineering students from Nigeria sent to study in Russia by the Nigerian government under the bilateral education agreement with Russia. But the Nigerian govt left us stranded since we got here. We’re now forced into abject poverty thereby doing menial jobs, like working in construction sites, to survive.

We appeal with the first citizen of Nigeria, President Tinubu to please come to our aid. We were last paid in September 2024, and till date we haven’t received a dime from the government..”
