    Kemi Adeosun (born March 9, 1967) is a former Nigerian Finance Minister and former Chairman of the Board of the African Export-Import Bank. Kemi Adeosun lost her husband Niyi Adeosun who died in Lagos at the age of 62.

    Adeosun Kemi was born on March 9, 1967, in London, England, to Nigerian parents from Ogun State. Her father was a government civil engineer.

    Her father has four children, and she is the third. Adeosun Kemi holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of East London, a public university in the London borough of Newham.

    She also has a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Financial Management from the University of London and has completed several executive management programs, including leadership training at the famed Wharton Business School.

    Adeosun earned his Chartered Accountant designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) in 1994.

    Career

    Kemi Adeosun began her career as an accounting assistant at British Telecom in London from 1989 to 1990, then moved on to Goodman Jones in London, where she worked as a senior audit officer until 1993.

    Kemi then worked as an Internal Audit Manager at London Underground and Prism Consulting from 1994 to 2000, before becoming a Senior Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers in London from 2000 to 2002.

    She joined Chapel Hill Denham Management in 2002 as financial controller, and was promoted to managing director in 2010. After serving as managing director of Quo Vadis Partnership from 2010 to 2011, she was named Ogun State Commissioner of Finance in 2011.

    Kemi held this position from 2011 to 2015. She played an important role in Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s Mission to Build, which transformed the state’s economic fortunes.

    President Muhammadu Buhari named Kemi Adeosun as Nigeria’s Finance Minister in November 2015. Adeosun was elected chairman of the Afreximbank board of directors at the bank’s 25th anniversary annual general meeting in Abuja.

    Kemi Adeosun succeeded the previous chairman, Ndagijimana Uzziel, the Republic of Rwanda’s Minister of Finance.

    On July 7, 2018, the Nigerian online tabloid Premium Times accused Kemi Adeosun of illegally obtaining her NYSC exemption certificate to run for public office.

    On July 9, NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Adeyemi Adenike, issued a statement confirming that Adeosun had validly submitted a request for an exemption certificate, but also stating that investigations were still underway to verify the exemption certificate’s approval.

    Adeosun resigned as Minister of Finance on September 14, 2018, in a letter to the President, citing the suspected NYSC Certificate fabrication controversy.

    On July 7, 2021, the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court cleared Adeosun, ruling that as a British citizen, she was not qualified to participate in the NYSC at the time she graduated at the age of 22, and that when she returned to Nigeria and became a Nigerian citizen at the age of 30, she was ineligible for youth service.

    After ostensibly being non-partisan throughout her career, Kemi Adeosun joined Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), on May 5, 2018.

    Kemi Adeosun is married to Niyi Adeosun, a consultant and businessman, and the couple has three grown children. Kemi Adeosun and Niyi Adeosun married in London in the 1980s and have had a supportive relationship throughout her career.

    Niyi is a consultant with business interests in Nigeria who previously worked in the UK, occasionally cooperating with Kemi on projects, before relocating to Nigeria in 2002.

    The couple balances their lives in Nigeria and the UK, favoring family privacy and keeping their three children out of the public eye.

    Niyi Adeosun Cause of Death

    Anthony Adeniyi Adeosun, the husband of former Nigerian Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun, died at the age of 62 in Lagos State, according to a statement issued by the Adeosun family and signed by Reverend C. A. Adeosun on their behalf.

    The family recognized him as a distinguished businessman and devout Christian whose life was characterized by honesty, charity, and unwavering faith. He was widely known for his dedication to God, his family, and the community, and his life was marked by hard work and service.
