Diarra From Detroit brought its latest mystery to Los Angeles this week, where Paramount+ and Scene & Heard hosted a special preview ahead of the show’s second season.

Held at Alamo Drafthouse, the event brought Diarra Kilpatrick together with cast members Jon Chaffin, DomiNque Perry and Bryan Terrell Clark for an early look at the series. Guests attended a private screening before Kilpatrick joined Yvonne Orji for a conversation about the work behind the show.

During their talk, Kilpatrick discussed developing the characters and managing what she described as the “controlled chaos” involved in making the series. Kilpatrick serves as creator and star of Diarra From Detroit, which follows her title character as her personal life becomes intertwined with increasingly dangerous mysteries.

Several familiar faces came out for the preview, including Issa Rae, Kenya Barris and Jay Ellis. The screening was preceded by a reception inspired by the show’s detective premise, with themed activities available to attendees. A Diarra From Detroit ice cream truck appeared after the program.

The gathering arrives as the series begins its sophomore season on Paramount+. Season 2 finds Diarra caught up in another case after a furniture recovery job takes an unexpected turn, pulling her back into Detroit’s criminal world.

The first two episodes are now available to stream, with new installments premiering every Wednesday. The season continues through September 9.
