     ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

    OF CLAIMS

    Pittsburgh Regional Transit is seeking a Assistant Director of Claims to investigate, evaluate, and supervise all Public Liability and Workers’ Compensation claims made against Port Authority of Allegheny d/b/a Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT). Negotiates and settles claims where appropriate. Maintains overall responsibility for the general supervision and management of personnel, functions and procedures employed within the Claims Department to ensure that all decisions are fiscally sound and provide customers with the highest level of service. Coordinates and oversees the use of Risk master Claims Management System or other designated claims management software system within the Department.

    Essential Functions:

    · Supervises and manages the personnel, functions, and procedures employed in the Claims Department.

    · Coordinate and oversee the use of Riskmaster Claims Management System or other designated claims management software system within the Department. Review closed claims in Riskmaster to ensure that all fields are properly completed. Review and input new lawsuit information into the system.

    · Coordinates and supervises the handling of legal files with both in-house and outside counsel. This includes gathering additional information to be used during trial. Meeting with in-house and outside counsel to review medical documentation, employee information, equipment data and making decisions and recommendations, within delegated Limits of Authority, on whether to settle a case or continue with litigation.

    · Maintains a 24-hour emergency call status with assistance from Claims Department supervisors on accidents involving injury or property damage; conducts on-the-scene preliminary investigation of accident severity, when warranted; prepares preliminary reports of all serious accidents.

    Job requirements include:

    · Bachelor’s degree in business administration, administration of justice, or related field from an accredited college or university.

    Related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

    · Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in property claims, motor ve­hicle claims, personal injury claims, settlement authority, establishing reserves/valuing claims and workers’ compensation claims. No required certifications or licenses.

    · Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience.

    · Effective and professional communication skills.

    · Experience with claims lawsuits including understanding of civil procedures (trials and arbitration); understanding of governmental immunity statutes; knowledge of witness locating and witness statement preparation.

    · Valid PA driver’s license.

    · Ability to maintain a 24-hour emergency call status.

    · Demonstrated ability in the use of Windows.

    Preferred attributes:

    · Accident investigation experience.

    · Experience in a unionized environment.

    · Experience with a self-insured entity.

    (Annual Salary $86,900 – $108,600)
