As the NBA offseason shifts into high gear following LeBron James’ decision to part ways with the Los Angeles Lakers, the league finds itself at a familiar, captivating crossroads: Where does The King finish his story?

Before the earthquake hit L.A. and LeBron officially made his departure known, opinions were already flying across the basketball culture about where the all-time scoring leader truly belongs for his final act.

In a conversation with me at ScoopB.com during the NBA Finals over at Spotify headquarters in Los Angeles, the hosts of the Club 520 PodcastBishop B Henn, DJ Wells, and former NBA All-Star Jeff Teague—weighed in on the prospect of a storybook narrative versus the realities of West Coast living.

The Homecoming Dream: Cleveland Calls Again

For many, the only fitting poetic end to LeBron’s career involves a return to where it all began.

“Cleveland bro, you don’t even have to finish your question,” Bishop B Henn stated bluntly, cutting straight to the heart of the romantic narrative surrounding a third stint in Northeast Ohio.

Beyond just the homecoming factor, DJ Wells pointed to the cultural and commercial explosion that would follow—especially if Bronny James tags along for the ride.

“Bronny and LeBron are going to Cleveland,” Wells insisted. “That Bronny James Jr. jersey is going to be in every frat house and every gas station. It’s going platinum, bro. He gotta go get a Shedeur Sanders jersey deal because it’s going up if he goes to Cleveland.”

Still, the prospect of returning to the franchise he’s already left twice comes with a heavy dose of basketball drama.

“That’s a toxic ass relationship, bro,” Wells added, drawing a parallel to a chaotic romance. “To leave your girl once and then to go back, and then go back again, bro?”

The L.A. Reality: Business & Hollywood

While the Cleveland narrative carries deep sentimental weight, Jeff Teague took a more pragmatic stance on the logistical and personal realities of LeBron’s empire off the floor.

“I’d like to see him end it in Cleveland too, man, but he won’t,” Teague countered. “Not to be in their business, but he got too much going on…”

Teague’s point highlights the massive media, entertainment, and business footprint James has established in Los Angeles—a footprint that makes uprooting his base a complex puzzle, regardless of on-court outcomes.

Yet, as Henn noted during the discussion, the competitive itch to turn a franchise around and rewrite the ending is always a factor for James.

“If he goes back, I think he likes that they lost,” Henn remarked on the competitive dynamic. “Because he’s like, ‘When I come back and we make some noise for real…?’

    What’s Next?

Now that the Lakers chapter has officially closed, the debate shifts from hypothetical discussions to real-time free agency moves. Whether James chooses the nostalgic draw of Ohio, a new contender, or a completely unexpected market, one thing is clear: the final chapter of LeBron James’ legendary career will be calculated, high-stakes, and impossible to look away from.
