Kim is a Korean American attorney and civic leader running for Mayor of Los Angeles in the 2026 election against mayoral candidates Karen Bass and Adam Miller. Andrew Kim was born in Inchon, South Korea, and immigrated to the United States at age 14 under a special immigrant visa program for families working with American troops. He attended South Gate High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Claremont McKenna College. He later obtained a Juris Doctor from Pepperdine Law School in 1986 and has practiced law in Los Angeles for over 30 years, focusing on civil rights, immigration, and senior citizen advocacy. Kim also earned a master’s degree in theology from Talbot Theological Seminary and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Religion at Claremont Graduate School. Kim has served as a civil rights attorney, representing vulnerable communities, seniors, and working families across Los Angeles. He has held positions as a Los Angeles County Commissioner on the Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Commission and as a temporary judge of the Superior Court of California.
