Delaware State may not have had a successful season on the diamond, but that didn’t stop a Major League Baseball team from selecting their best pitcher in this past weekend’s draft.

Junior righthander Michael Lane was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 16th round of the MLB draft. Lane was the Hornets’ winningest pitcher in 2026, collecting four of the team’s eight wins on the year.

Lane finished second in the Northeast Conference with 88 strikeouts and his four wins were good enough for the top 10 among NEC individual pitchers.

Lane had two games of double-digit strikeouts, both wins. He struck out 10 batters in a 4-2 victory of Fairleigh Dickinson March 28 and struck out 11 in a 5-4 win over Maryland Eastern Shore April 10.
