As the free agency rumor mill heats up, all eyes are on LeBron James’ next destination. While traditional powerhouse markets continue to maneuver for his services, the Minnesota Timberwolves are suitors.

Sources with knowledge disclose that Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards personally reached out to LeBron James about bringing his talents to Minnesota.

“He did. He reached out to him. And it was received,” a source revealed last week.

The outreach signals Minnesota’s serious intention to position itself as a championship destination, leveraging their core talent to appeal to James. 

“He knows what Minnesota looks like,” a trusted source added.

The mutual respect between the organizations extends to the front office as well. Sources with knowledge tell ScoopB.com that LeBron James’ agent, Rich Paul, has immense respect for Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly, with Paul sharing of Connelly to others, “he’s great.”

Edwards isn’t the only star extending an invitation to Minneapolis. Newly minted Timberwolves point guard LaMelo Ball has also personally reached out to James about making the move to Minnesota.

Ball and James share a unique history; LaMelo’s older brother, Lonzo Ball, was teammates with LeBron during his early tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers. During that time, a young LaMelo was establishing himself as a standout high school prodigy at Chino Hills High School in Southern California.

During his introductory press conference after joining the Timberwolves, Ball played it cool when asked if he had called to recruit James to Minnesota. With a smile, Ball jokingly responded, “Yeah, whatever you’re thinking.”

The relationship between Ball and James has evolved into mutual admiration over the years. Early in Ball’s rookie season back in March 2021, comments he made prior to facing James were initially construed by some as “throwing shade.” When asked if he felt a special way about sharing a court with LeBron, Ball candidly said:

“I mean, nah. I grew up a little different. Not really on basketball like that. So, not really. I go to every game with the same approach — going in to try to get a win.”

When asked if James was a role model growing up, Ball added:

“It was my Pops. So, I was big on family and stuff like that. Not really with the basketball.”

Despite the narrative that Ball was dismissing James, LeBron offered glowing praise following their first matchup in March 2021:

“I think he’s damn good to be his age. His speed, his quickness, his ability to make shots at all facets in the paint. Floaters, 3s, he has the three tiers already, and he’s only going to get better. Him and [brother, Lonzo] are two very unique players in our league, and they showcase that every night.”

Since then, Ball has consistently expressed high regard for James. Earlier this year, following a January 15, 2026, victory over the Lakers in a 135-117 performance where Ball exploded for 30 points, 6 rebounds, 11 assists, and 9 three-pointers (scoring 27 points in the second half alone), he spoke openly about James’ impact:

“I have great admiration for LeBron. Almost all players born in the 2000s were inspired by him. In basketball. Even at 41 years old, his level is still higher compared to others.”

While Minnesota has positioned itself as a darkhorse candidate with the dynamic young pieces to compete immediately if James seriously considers them, they face stiff competition across the league. Powerhouse franchises including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, and Philadelphia 76ers remain fiercely interested in securing James’ services.

As for when the final decision will land, the timeline remains entirely in the hands of the all-time great.
