Former Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has been appointed manager of Ligue 1 side Paris FC, marking a quick return to management following his dismissal at Stamford Bridge in April.

The 41-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the French club, with the agreement including an option to extend for a further season. He replaces Antoine Kombouare after Paris FC finished 11th in Ligue 1 last season.

Paris FC back Rosenior’s long-term vision

Paris FC said Rosenior’s appointment reflects the club’s ambition to progress under its ownership, led by the Arnault family with Red Bull as a minority shareholder.

In a statement, the club said the former Chelsea boss was chosen because of his “wealth of experience at the highest level”, his ability to develop young players and his commitment to “attractive and attacking football”.

Rosenior is no stranger to French football, having previously managed Strasbourg before taking charge of Chelsea earlier this year.

Chelsea spell ends after difficult run

Rosenior was appointed Chelsea manager in January after Enzo Maresca left the club following disagreements with the hierarchy.

Although his tenure began positively, results deteriorated during the closing weeks of the campaign.

Chelsea lost each of their final five Premier League matches under his leadership and failed to score in any of those games, leading to his dismissal after less than four months in charge.

Despite that setback, Rosenior’s reputation remained strong because of his earlier work at Strasbourg, where he guided the club to seventh place in the 2024-25 Ligue 1 season and qualification for the UEFA Conference League with one of the youngest squads across Europe’s top five leagues.

Before moving to France, Rosenior began his coaching career with Brighton’s Under-23 side before joining Derby County as assistant to Wayne Rooney and later serving as interim manager.

He also managed Hull City, leading the Championship club to 15th place in his first season before narrowly missing the play-offs with a seventh-place finish the following campaign.

Chelsea have since appointed former Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso as Rosenior’s successor.
