CD Projekt Red joint CEO Michał Nowakowski announced that the developer is officially aiming for a 2028 launch for The Witcher 4. This target window provides the most concrete timeline yet for the highly anticipated sequel. The studio has kept the project in active development for several years following the conclusion of Geralt of Rivia's mainline story. Fans received the latest update through a pre-Gamescom video message where Nowakowski detailed the road ahead for the beloved fantasy franchise. He noted that the upcoming entry represents the biggest and most ambitious game the studio has ever created.More than 500 developers are currently working on the next saga. The massive team is shifting focus toward a fresh narrative with Ciri taking over as the central protagonist. While the sequel will skip the convention floor in Cologne this year, leadership confirmed it will eventually launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC. Taking the time to properly polish the new adventure remains a priority for the creative directors. The broader corporate strategy includes releasing an entire new trilogy within a six-year period starting from the launch of this fourth entry.Players eager for immediate content will still have plenty to explore before the end of the decade. The publisher plans to utilize the Opening Night Live showcase to reveal an upcoming expansion for The Witcher 3 titled "Songs of the Past." Slated for a 2027 debut across modern consoles and PC hardware, the add-on is being co-developed alongside the industry veterans at Fool’s Theory. Nowakowski teased that the story acts as an indirect prologue setting the stage for the next major chapter. Attendees can experience a dedicated booth featuring a deep dive into the dark narrative additions.Beyond the core single-player experiences, the Polish developer maintains its commitment to expanding the broader universe. A multiplayer spinoff codenamed Project Siris continues its production cycle despite recent workforce reductions affecting the dedicated team. The company laid off a number of staff members attached to the cooperative title earlier in August. Securing a steady stream of releases ensures the franchise stays relevant while the primary studio dedicates the next four years to perfecting its Unreal Engine 5 transition.
