The Australian Department of Home Affairs has confirmed that only one type of foreigner is eligible for a reduced charge when applying for citizenship by conferral, lowering the bar for those looking to save money on the procedure.

According to the official government immigration website, the fee concession is only available to holders of a valid Pensioner Concession Card.

Australia indicates that foreigners are eligible for a reduced citizenship application fee. The card must not have expired and must have been issued directly by the Australian Government, either through Services Australia or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

The applicant’s name must also be on the card as the principal cardholder.
