Victor Osimhen will enter the new Süper Lig season facing a significantly stronger challenge after Galatasaray’s main domestic rivals made major additions to their squads.

The Nigerian striker has been central to Galatasaray’s dominance since arriving in Turkey, scoring 59 goals across his first two seasons and helping the Istanbul club maintain their position at the top of Turkish football.

However, Fenerbahçe and Trabzonspor have strengthened considerably during the summer, raising the prospect of a more competitive title race in 2026/27.

Lukaku and Greenwood boost Fenerbahçe

Fenerbahçe have added Romelu Lukaku and Mason Greenwood to an attack that already possesses considerable quality.

Lukaku, who previously replaced Osimhen at Napoli, gives Fenerbahçe an experienced striker with a strong record in front of goal. His physical strength and ability to hold up play offer a different attacking option from Osimhen’s pace and movement behind defensive lines.

Greenwood adds another threat, with the English forward capable of creating and scoring goals from both wide and central positions.

The additions could make Fenerbahçe much harder to contain and reduce Galatasaray’s advantage in attacking quality.

The Istanbul club have also added experienced players including N’Golo Kante, Ederson, Nelson Semedo, Nathan Ake, Fred and Marco Asensio, giving their squad greater depth and experience.

Salah raises Trabzonspor expectations

Trabzonspor have arguably made the most eye-catching addition by signing Mohamed Salah from Liverpool on a two-year contract.

The Egyptian’s arrival has generated huge excitement among supporters, who turned out in large numbers for his unveiling following the club’s third-place finish last season.

Salah could also form a dangerous partnership with Paul Onuachu. The Nigerian striker scored 22 league goals last season and could benefit from Salah’s creativity, movement and ability to create chances.

That combination gives Trabzonspor a realistic attacking threat and could make them a serious factor in the title race.

For Osimhen, the challenge is therefore no longer simply about maintaining his impressive scoring record.

Galatasaray must now consistently create opportunities for their leading striker while coping with stronger opposition across the league.

The Nigerian has already demonstrated his ability to dominate Turkish football. The next test will be whether he can maintain that level when Fenerbahçe and Trabzonspor have significantly increased their firepower.

With Lukaku, Greenwood and Salah now among the league’s biggest attacking names, Osimhen’s battle for another title and potentially another Golden Boot has become considerably more demanding.
