CHICAGO — For UConn Huskies point guard KK Arnold, the game of basketball has always been about more than just the four quarters on the clock. It’s about the energy you bring to the arena long before the first whistle blows.

As a leader for one of the most storied programs in college basketball, the Germantown, Wisconsin native has become a household name for her defensive intensity and clutch playmaking. But recently, she’s been making waves in a different kind of lane: the JCPenney “Inside Lane” campaign.

The tunnel fit has become one of the biggest expressions of athlete culture, turning pregame arrivals into moments of confidence, creativity, and individuality. Announced back in April, JCPenney launched Its Inside Lane to influence a fashion movement beyond the arena. Featuring a roster of women’s basketball stars like KK Arnold, Jackie Young, Stef Dolson, Gabriela Jaquez, and Audi Crooks, the campaign is challenging the idea that elite style comes with an elite price tag. Ahead of WNBA All-Star Weekend in Chicago, Arnold and her fellow athletes showcased how the next generation is redefining what it means to have an everyday tunnel fit.

The partnership is a full-circle moment for Arnold. While many elite athletes gravitate toward high-priced luxury brands, KK’s heart remains at the mall where she grew up.

“I grew up on JCPenney,” Arnold shared in an exclusive interview. “Going back-to-school shopping with my mom—that was one of the biggest highlights. To bring that same energy and create a new standard of ‘feel good, look good’ is just great.”

The “Inside Lane” roster is a powerhouse blend of veteran legends and rising icons, each bringing a unique style to a series of curated, affordable looks:

In the era of the “Tunnel Fit,” where pre-game walk-ins are treated like high-fashion runways, Arnold is carving out a space for authenticity and accessibility. She describes her personal style as “baggy chic”—a blend of casual, cool, and comfortable that mirrors her calm demeanor off the court.

    Her go-to look?

“I’m very into the ‘jorts’—the long shorts—right now,” she says. “An oversized tee, a nice crop top, and a pair of calm Nike shoes or loafers. I have to look presentable, especially when I’m back home. I can’t be caught looking crazy!”

For Arnold, the “Inside Lane” campaign is about proving that style doesn’t require a stylist or a massive bank account. It’s about identity.

“Confidence didn’t come from a stylist or a budget,” she noted. “It came from knowing who I am.”

“I’ve always let one piece do the talking. The right jacket, unexpected sunglasses, that statement jewelry. That confidence didn’t come from a stylist or a budget. It came from knowing who I am.

JCPenney’s “Inside Lane” is built on that same idea: your fit should reflect you, not your price tag. These looks are for every woman who walks into a room ready to take over.”

Jackie Young: 3x WNBA Champion, 2x Olympic Gold Medalist, and former #1 overall pick.

Jackie Young has established herself as one of the WNBA’s premier two-way players. The former No. 1 overall pick has built an impressive résumé that includes three WNBA championships with the Las Vegas Aces, two Olympic gold medals with Team USA, and multiple All-Star selections. Known for her versatility, efficiency, and leadership, Young continues to be a driving force behind one of the league’s most successful franchises while helping elevate the global profile of women’s basketball. She speaks on her experiences growing up and shopping at J.C. Penny.

“JCPenney was a huge part of my life growing up in Princeton, Indiana. My family and I would spend hours picking out clothes that made us feel good about ourselves. That’s why being a part of JCPenney’s Inside Lane means everything to me. Great style and fun clothing should be available to everyone, at any price point. That’s what JCPenney did for me growing up, and now I get to do it for others.”

Gabriela Jaquez: NCAA National Champion (UCLA) and the Chicago Sky’s first-round WNBA Draft pick.

Gabriela Jaquez is one of the WNBA’s rising young talents, transitioning to the professional ranks after a decorated career at UCLA. A national champion and first-round draft pick by the Chicago Sky, Jaquez has quickly embraced the opportunity to develop at the highest level while bringing the leadership, competitiveness, and basketball IQ that made her one of college basketball’s standout players.

“Fashion is part of my game, on and off the court. Growing up, I’d head to the Camarillo JCPenney every back-to-school season—that’s where I learned that real power comes from accessibility, not price tags. I chose to be part of ‘Inside Lane’ because JCPenney understands what luxury brands miss: confidence doesn’t require exclusivity. I handpicked these fits to give every woman the freedom to command her space and own her moment, unapologetically.”

Audi Crooks: The All-American center and NCAA’s second-leading scorer.

Audi Crooks has emerged as one of the most dominant players in college basketball. The Iowa State standout earned All-America honors while finishing as the NCAA’s second-leading scorer, establishing herself as one of the nation’s premier centers. With her combination of size, skill, and consistent offensive production, Crooks continues to cement her place among the game’s brightest young stars.

I’m intentional about who I am and how I show up. That extends to fashion. Whether it’s keeping things cute when heading to class or adding some edge for a meetup with friends, it’s about feeling confident and not letting outside noise dictate your style. JCPenney understands that, and they’re making it attainable for everyone.

Stef Dolson: 2x NCAA Champion, WNBA Champion, and Olympic Gold Medalist.

Stefanie Dolson has built one of the most accomplished careers in women’s basketball. A two-time NCAA champion at UConn, WNBA champion, and Olympic gold medalist with Team USA, Dolson has become known for her versatility, veteran leadership, and impact on both ends of the floor. Her experience at every level of the game continues to make her a respected voice and valuable presence in the WNBA.

“I’ve been in the league long enough to know that personal brand and visibility matter. Tunnel fits became this cultural moment where athletes have the chance to express themselves authentically. My personal style shifts constantly and that freedom should belong to everyone. JCPenney’s Inside Lane gives us all the chance to tell our story through fashion.”

    More Than a Tunnel Fit

For Arnold, style is only part of the story. The bigger impact comes from the opportunity to pour into the next generation. During WNBA All-Star Weekend in Chicago, she spent time with young athletes from the Boys & Girls Club, using the moment to encourage them both on and off the court.

That responsibility isn’t lost on the UConn standout.

“Be judge-free,” Arnold said. “Don’t listen to the outside noise. Listen to your circle, take it one day at a time, and just have fun. Be a sponge and absorb everything.”

Arnold knows what it’s like to look up to someone who made the path feel possible. For her, that player was UConn legend Moriah Jefferson. At 5-foot-9, Jefferson showed that heart, toughness and relentless defense could outweigh size, a mindset Arnold has embraced throughout her own career.

As women’s basketball continues to shape conversations far beyond the game, Arnold is embracing every part of the moment. Whether she’s making plays on the court, mentoring young athletes or showing fans that confidence doesn’t come with a luxury price tag, she’s helping redefine what influence looks like for the next generation.

“We’re bringing in so many great women athletes to look up to,” Arnold said. “They’re creating their own pathways and journeys. To be a part of that, and to grow the game on and off the court, is a dream.”

And if the tunnel walk has become a symbol of self-expression, Arnold hopes the next generation walks into every room with that same confidence, knowing the best fit is the one that feels true to who they are.
