There are far too many stories of people, of the everyday and public figure ilk, quarreling with the mother or father of their child. Be it over child support, visitation, new partners, or parenting choices, having a healthy relationship with the person you choose to have a child with isn’t as commonplace for people as it should be.

So it’s always beautiful when co-parents not only get along but also share visitation time with their ex outside of select birthday celebrations and holidays.

But would you travel with your co-parent? And does doing so offer a needed representation of a healthy co-parenting relationship for your children to see, or send mixed signals to them instead that imply reconciliation?

Most recently, former Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta stars Scrappy and Adiz “Bambi” Benson stirred some debate online by going on a trip together with their children. From the outside looking in, some assumed the former spouses were slowly making their way back to each other romantically, and they wouldn’t be completely wrong in such an assumption. Before the reality TV series concluded, Scrappy broke off things with his most recent girlfriend (read: sabotaged things) and spoke openly about wondering if he’d made the right decision when he chose not to fight for his marriage with Benson. The two grew friendlier and even flirtatious by the end of the show. Benson seemed content to remain friendly co-parents, but didn’t say “never” to the idea of reconciliation.

So when Benson shared a video on an elevator with Scrappy and their kids during their family trip, it created quite a bit of commentary.

“Maybe it’s just me but I ain’t going on no vacation with my kids and my bd unless we both got partners that’s coming along and even then idkkkkk,” one commenter wrote on The Shaderoom of the reposted clip.

“Idc how cordial I am with my children’s father, I would NEVER take a vacation with them ‘for the kids'” said another.

But there were people who actually loved to see it.

“She had 3 kids by that man back to back I truly respect the fact she still allows him to be a father to his children and he is her ex husband regardless of their past relationship,” wrote a commenter. “I feel like this is mature co parenting them babies still young and he is showing up no matter the circumstances.”

Others remarked that these close co-parenting partnerships are why they choose not to date men with kids. A few claimed Benson was subtly letting people know she was spinning the block with her ex-husband. Scrappy decided to put a pin in all of it.

“I’m sorry, I don’t go off of society’s ways of raising kids, which is you got to be beefin’ with the other parent, and you can’t go out on vacation with the kids and be cool parents and co-parent. There is nobody else that me and her feel love the kids as much as we do, and that would help protect the kids as much as we protect them. We ain’t finna call nobody else on the vacation for the kids. We gon’ do it together,” he said in a video.

“We do sh-t on the inside together, in Atlanta, for the kids,” the rapper and TV personality added. “So, ain’t nobody spinnin’ the block. Ain’t nobody doing extra sh-t because I know y’all lookin’, thinking Bam took me back and all that. Ain’t none of that going on. We have fun with our babies.”

They are not alone in their co-parenting getaways. Similarly, former spouses Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson enjoyed a vacation with their daughter. Despite officially divorcing in 2025, they just traveled to the West Indies together to have quality time with their daughter, Juno.

And Kandi Burruss and ex-husband Todd Tucker have vacationed together a few times since they announced their split in November 2025 (and finalized it in March of 2026). They most recently went to the Bahamas with their kids, Ace and Blaze, in June.

“We on this co-parenting trip,” Burruss said while capturing video of Tucker reading a devotional book poolside. “Let me just say this. We was married for almost 12 years, and that man ain’t never had no Prayers for Men book, none of that. Now we divorced and he wanna be out here on the beach, well out on the pool with his Daily Prayers for Men book. Now I ain’t saying that’s a bad thing, that’s a good thing, but he should’ve started praying a long time ago.”

Of course, all that was said in jest. For the most part…

“I have been really nice on this co-parenting trip but every now & then the urge to be petty comes out,” she wrote as the caption.

While a co-parenting getaway may not be an ideal way to come together as a family for many people, it seems to work for these parties. As long as the effort doesn’t give the children involved false hope that the trip will lead to things going back to the way they were when mom and dad were together, it’s a positive for them to see their parents interacting in a loving way. It’s also admirable, when you really think about it. Who you choose to travel with is serious business. To opt to take time off to partner with your child or children’s father or mother is quite the sacrifice. It says that you both have evolved and see the bigger picture. And sometimes, that can lead to a second try.

But that said, should people choose not to opt for a co-parent ‘cation, that’s understandable as well. You can co-parent without being friends. You can co-parent without feeling the need to have blended activities. And you can co-parent positively with minimal communication. It’s really all about what floats your boat and meets your babies’ needs. But I will say, seeing harmonious co-parenting, in any form, is a blessing.
