    The National Women's Law Center's annual State Child Care Assistance Policies report found that the number of children on waiting lists for federally funded child care assistance nearly doubled between 2024 and 2025, with 17 states having waiting lists or a freeze on intake and 225,500 children on the list in February 2025.
