David Ibiyeomie, a popular Nigerian cleric, has sparked widespread reactions after reiterating his stance on tithing as a key requirement for financial prosperity.

During a recent sermon, the founder emphasised that covenant wealth is built on spiritual principles, with tithe serving as its foundation.

He maintained that anyone seeking lasting prosperity must first fulfil this obligation.

Tithing as the Foundation of Wealth

According to the pastor, neglecting tithe undermines any claim of operating under divine covenant principles. He compared it to constructing a building without a solid base.

You can’t say you are walking in covenant if the foundation is not in place. The foundation for the covenant is tithe. Trying to walk in covenant wealth without tithing is like trying to build a house without a foundation,” he said.

Quoting the Bible, particularly Malachi 3:10, he urged believers to remain consistent in their giving.

You have to pay correct tithe if you don’t want your life to be tight,” he added, stressing that obedience in this area ensures provision and stability.

    Personal Giving and Prosperity Claims

The cleric also shared details of his personal financial commitments, describing them as “quality offerings.” He disclosed that he gives a minimum of $12,000 on Sundays and $2,000 on weekdays.

The minimum offerings I give on Sundays is $12,000 and the minimum I give on week days is $2,000. If you don’t give me offering I’ll still be stinkingly rich,” he stated.

He further argued that generosity is directly linked to prosperity, while stinginess leads to poverty.

Stinginess is the gateway to poverty and giving is the gateway to prosperity. Every poor man is stingy,” he added.

The remarks have since generated mixed reactions, with supporters agreeing with his teachings on giving, while critics question the emphasis on financial contributions as a pathway to wealth.
