SummaryPatrice Désilets and Panache Digital Games revived the long-delayed 1666: Amsterdam projectThe 17th-century historical action-adventure game blends multi-generational witchcraft with a supernatural horror twistA free 30-minute playable prologue demo shadow-dropped on Steam and Epic Games StoreAfter nearly fifteen years trapped in development hell, original Assassin's Creed creator Patrice Désilets and Panache Digital Games have officially announced 1666: Amsterdam at Summer Game Fest 2026.Initially conceptualized back in 2012 at THQ Montreal before a grueling legal battle with Ubisoft left the intellectual property in limbo, the dark third-person historical action-adventure title is officially back from the dead. Moving away from purely traditional historical settings, the game introduces a supernatural horror twist to an alternative 17th-century Netherlands. The announcement was made with a game reveal trailer, which introduces a reality-bending narrative that spans across three distinct eras: 1666, 1999 and the present day. Centered around a multi-generational conspiracy, the plot follows a protagonist named Noa Brooklyn, a so-called "Collector" raised by a mysterious faction known as the Zaindaris. Noa utilizes witchcraft and ancient spells to track down "The Originals," ancient, demonic beings who have masqueraded as ordinary citizens for centuries. To celebrate the premiere, the studio shadow-dropped a free, 30-minute playable prologue demo across Steam and the Epic Games Store, with plans to officially launch the game into PC Early Access later this year before a broader console release down the line.
