Afrobeats star Davido has alleged that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and businessman Aliko Dangote contacted him and asked him to delete one of his posts on X during the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.

The singer made the revelation in an interview with News Central Television, shortly after publicly putting pressure on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Federal Government over the conduct of the election.

Davido, who openly campaigned for his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, also alleged that substantial sums of money were brought into Osun State in an effort to influence the election’s outcome.

He maintained that his camp did not spend money on election day, despite what he described as extensive vote-buying efforts across the state.

The singer also called on his uncle to set an example for other state governors, arguing that Adeleke’s victory came despite what he described as significant challenges and opposition.

“My uncle should be an example to other governors. With all odds against us, my uncle still won,” he said.

Davido also revealed that the senate president and Aliko Dangote had reached out to him to delete his tweets, but he refused.

“I heard that the Senate President was trying to call the coalition center. He also was calling me to delete tweet. I said sir, sorry o. You guys have literally gone against my uncle. I can’t delete anything. Uncle Aliko also called. I said I won’t delete till INEC announces it,” he said.

According to Davido, his father, Adedeji Adeleke, also remained supportive of the governor throughout the election period.

“Even my dad was praying and fasting seven times a day for my uncle,” he said.

During the election, Davido made several posts on X in which he criticised the APC, INEC, and the Federal Government over developments surrounding the poll.

INEC eventually declared Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, the winner after he secured 511,067 votes, defeating the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who received 444,815 votes.
