Olivier Rousteing has officially been appointed Creative Director of Rabanne, marking one of the biggest luxury fashion appointments of the year. Rousteing has long been one of fashion’s most influential voices, and his move to Rabanne signals an exciting new chapter for both the designer and the brand. Additionally, this is another major milestone for the Black community, showcasing how we continuously reshape the highest levels of the luxury industry.

Rousteing arrives after an extraordinary 14-year tenure at Balmain, where he transformed the historic house into a global cultural force. Under his leadership, Balmain became synonymous with bold glamour, impeccable craftsmanship, and celebrity-driven fashion moments. Meanwhile, he expanded the brand’s reach to a new generation of luxury consumers. His ability to blend heritage with contemporary pop culture made him one of the defining creative directors of his era.

Fashion fans won’t have to look far to remember Rousteing’s design style. Earlier this year, he created one of the most talked-about custom looks of the 2026 Met Gala for Beyoncé: a dazzling, crystal-encrusted ensemble inspired by a skeletal silhouette that perfectly balanced artistry, innovation, and couture craftsmanship. The look served as a reminder that Rousteing’s creative vision extends far beyond the confines of a single fashion house.

Now, all eyes are on what he will bring to Rabanne. Known for its futuristic aesthetic, metallic craftsmanship, and boundary-pushing designs, the house feels like a natural fit for Rousteing’s bold point of view. As he begins this new era, the fashion world—and particularly the Black fashion community—will be watching with anticipation to see how he reimagines the iconic brand.

Roustieng’s runway show debut for the brand will take place in March 2027.
