A young Nigerian man has shared a painful account of how he was allegedly kidnapped after boarding a commercial bus in Lagos State.

    Journey From Island to Mainland

According to the young man, the incident happened on the 25th of June 2026 while he was travelling between friends on the island and the mainland.

“I was kidnapped and robbed in Lagos on the 25th of June 2026. I was going from my friend’s place on the island to my other friend’s place on the mainland. I had a stop at some points because I missed the road,” he stated.

It was raining and there was a lot of traffic. I asked for directions and a woman that directed me said it was just one bus stop, and advice that I just took the Danfo. I took her advice.

“I asked the conductor how much it was. He said N1000 initially. I know that short distances don’t usually cost up to N1000. I beat the price down to N700. The conductor agreed. I boarded the bus with a younger guy sitting beside me, six random guys sitting in the bus and then one elderly woman sitting in front and at some points the elderly woman in front got down.”

    Suspicion Inside the Bus

He said he was distracted during the trip and did not notice anything unusual at first.

“I wasn’t really paying attention to the roads because I do not really know my way around. I was more focused on editing my content and also finalising the job application I was working on. I just checked my map and you know one thing about Google Maps is it always redirects you.

When I lifted my hand, I saw that we already parked at the place, had little to no houses, bushes around and a lot of uncompleted buildings. I didn’t really read meaning into it because I know once in a while Lagos driver’s team shot through in order to avoid the traffic and then the driver came down and said he wanted to go and get fuel. I assumed he was going to get the fuel from the black market so I didn’t really make a fuss about it.”

    Attack Begins

He explained that the situation changed in an instant when one of the passengers demanded his phone.

“One of the guys sitting in front of me turned and said make I see that your phone. I then started arguing why would you be asking for my phone. I don’t know you, you don’t know me.

    Fear and Safety Concerns

The man said the kidnappers continued beating them while forcing them to unlock their phones, leaving him terrified for his life

“While I was still complaining, he snatched the phone away from me. While I was doing that, one of the guys sitting at the back said guy calm down o. That was when I knew that things already went south. They took the phone of the younger guy sitting beside me. They put their hand around our neck so that the people living around would not suspect anything. They took us to an uncompleted building and they started beating us. Beat us, they slapped they slapped me, they asked that I unlock my phone and they just, they just kept beating me…”
