When someone cheats in a relationship, is the person who cheated always 100% responsible—or can the person who was betrayed also have contributed to what was going wrong at home? In this 8 At The Table conversation, the table gets into one of the most controversial questions in relationships: whose fault is cheating? The debate starts when someone argues that many people who get cheated on weren’t necessarily being great partners at home. Maybe affection disappeared. Maybe intimacy changed. Maybe someone’s emotional needs weren’t being met. Maybe problems had been building for months. The immediate pushback: None of that gives someone permission to cheat. If you’re unhappy, communicate. If your needs aren’t being met, say it. And if the relationship can’t be repaired, leave. Going outside of the relationship is still a decision made by the person who cheated. But the other side raises a harder question: Can someone be completely innocent of the cheating itself while still carrying some responsibility for the relationship falling apart? The table also debates whether men and women actually tell their partners the brutal truth before cheating. Would a man really tell his partner that the intimacy isn’t satisfying him anymore? Would someone admit they’re becoming attracted to other people before anything happens? And if couples aren’t willing to have those uncomfortable conversations, how are they supposed to fix what’s missing? This conversation gets into infidelity, cheating in relationships, accountability, intimacy, communication, relationship problems, why men cheat, why women cheat, emotional needs, loyalty and whether cheating is about someone’s character or what’s happening inside the relationship. 👇 If your partner cheats because they were unhappy with something in the relationship, are YOU responsible for any part of what happened—or is cheating always 100% on the cheater? And another question: Would you rather hear the brutal truth from your partner before they cheat, even if what they tell you hurts?
