Monarch Bay was my first home course, and it's a place that will always be special to me. I've been coming around this course for 3 years. For someone just getting into golf, it has everything you could ask for: a two-tier driving range, dedicated short-game practice areas, a Scottish links-style 18-hole course and an executive Marina 9-hole course. All of it sits along the bayfront, offering expansive views of the San Francisco skyline and bay. Some of my favorite golf memories were made here, including my first hole-in-one on the Marina 9 within my first year of playing the game.During the long summer days, my friends and I would often stay until nearly 9PM, squeezing every last minute of daylight out of the evening. When we didn’t have enough time to finish a full 18 holes after work, we'd head to the nearest open hole and create our own competition. A quick closest-to-the-pin challenge or a chip-off from just off the green would keep us out there until we could barely see the flagstick. Those spontaneous games became some of my favorite memories at Monarch. What truly makes Monarch special, though, is its community. There's a welcoming, laid-back atmosphere that captures the charm of a municipal golf course on a warm twilight evening. You'll find regulars who spend hours working on their game at the range without ever stepping onto the course, while others gather on the patio with their choice of beverage, catching up with friends as they overlook the 1st and 10th tees.Monarch Bay isn't just where I learned to play golf, but how to enjoy the simple things that make the game so special.
