FairRide AI Gives Drivers Greater Clarity on Car Repair Costs

Car repairs can be stressful, especially when drivers have little information to determine whether the amount they are being charged is reasonable. FairRide AI is working to change that by giving consumers a faster and easier way to evaluate repair estimates before approving the work.

Founded by Precious Jones, FairRide AI is a Black woman-owned, AI-powered consumer technology platform that helps drivers determine whether their car repair bills are fairly priced.

Users can upload a repair estimate to FairRide AI and receive a fairness score based on market pricing data. The platform analyzes the estimate and provides information about labor charges, parts costs and additional fees that may be higher than expected.

ā€œToo many people are left guessing when it comes to car repair costs,ā€ Jones said. ā€œFairRide AI gives users clarity and confidence in seconds.ā€

The platform is designed to address the imbalance of information that can exist between consumers and automotive repair businesses. Many drivers do not know the typical cost of a replacement part, the standard amount of labor required for a repair or how local pricing may affect the final bill.

That uncertainty can make it difficult to ask informed questions, compare estimates or decide whether to seek another opinion. FairRide AI brings pricing information together in a format intended to help everyday consumers better understand what they are being asked to pay.

The need for greater transparency comes as vehicle ownership continues to represent a significant household expense. AAA estimated that owning and operating a new vehicle cost an average of $11,577 in 2025, or about $965 per month. That figure included maintenance, repairs, tires, fuel, insurance, financing, registration and depreciation.

The Federal Trade Commission also advises consumers to request written estimates and consider seeking a second opinion before approving expensive or complicated repairs. Repair shops may calculate labor costs differently, with some using standardized flat-rate estimates and others charging according to the time spent completing the work.

FairRide AI does not require drivers to research every part, fee and labor rate individually. Instead, the platform uses artificial intelligence and market-based benchmarks to provide an assessment within seconds.

Jones launched FairRide AI after recognizing how often consumers are left in the dark about automotive repair pricing. Based in Prince George’s County, Maryland, she has a background in strategy and product leadership and is passionate about building data-driven solutions that increase transparency and protect consumers from overpaying.

FairRide AI’s focus on a clear consumer problem has also earned recognition within Baltimore’s entrepreneurial community. The company received second place at the Greater Baltimore Urban League’s 2026 Business Summit Pitch Competition.

The recognition highlighted FairRide AI’s potential to make automotive pricing information more accessible, but the company’s broader mission extends beyond the competition. Jones is building a practical tool that can help drivers approach repair decisions with greater knowledge and confidence.

FairRide AI is currently available through Apple’s App Store, with Android availability coming soon.
