Jude Bellingham scored twice, including a dramatic extra-time winning goal, to help England defeat Norway 2-1 and reach the World Cup semifinals for the first time since 2018. The Real Madrid star now has six goals in the tournament, matching teammate Harry Kane and trailing only Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi. He also scored twice in England’s round-of-16 victory over co-hosts Mexico. England, the 1966 World Cup champions, moved one step closer to another final appearance after defeating Norway where they will face either Argentina or Switzerland in the semifinals. Norway, who reached their first-ever quarterfinals, took the lead through Andreas Schjelderup who scored in the 36th minute, but star striker Erling Haaland was unable to score, ending the match without a goal despite having seven earlier in the tournament. Norway came close to taking a 2-1 lead when Torbjørn Heggem scored from a rebound, but the goal was ruled out after a VAR review showed a foul by Erling Haaland. Haaland was also denied by goalkeeper Jordan Pickford earlier, while Andreas Schjelderup shocked England by scoring off the post despite their dominating possession. Bellingham’s close-range equaliser sparked a huge reaction from the crowd, including England legends David Beckham and Mick Jagger. Norway’s Schjelderup celebrated his goal after giving his team the lead, while Harry Kane appealed for a foul that was not given. Shortly before Bellingham’s goal, England benefited from a controversial moment involving the ball and an aerial camera cable before Bellingham finished with a low shot past goalkeeper Orjan Nyland.
