El-Sayed says this is not speculation or paranoia. He argues that roughly $60 million in outside spending is being used to attack him, help his opponents and spread lies about who he is and what he stands for. The sharpest part of his response is that the money is not only aimed at hurting him politically. He says it is designed to bury his record, especially his decade of work in and among Black communities in Michigan. El-Sayed points to years of public-health leadership, racial-equity work and direct engagement in Black communities as the real foundation of his outreach. He tells Roland that his connection with Black voters is not something invented for campaign season. He says it has been built over 10 years of service. Roland also challenges El-Sayed on the narrative that Black voters are afraid of him or skeptical of his candidacy. El-Sayed argues that this perception is being manufactured through ad spending and distorted messaging.
