Dallas rapper Dorrough Music brought together multiple generations of Texas hip-hop for the inaugural Dorrough & Friends concert Friday, May 29, at Trees Dallas.

The event featured artists from Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Austin and other parts of Texas, with a lineup representing established regional performers and emerging acts. Featured talent included Big Tuck, Chalie Boy, Tum Tum, Erica Banks, Twisted Black, Yung Nation, The Party Boyz, GS Boyz, Oh Boy Prince, 10K Caash, S3nsi Molly, JhonnieDamnD, DJ XO, Whip The Rapper and others.

The concert also contributed to an ongoing conversation about Dallas’ place in Southern hip-hop. While cities such as Houston, Atlanta, Memphis, Miami and New Orleans are frequently highlighted in discussions of Southern rap history, Dallas has produced artists and records that have contributed to the genre across multiple eras.

For Dorrough, whose career has remained closely connected to his hometown, the event was an opportunity to spotlight Dallas and Texas artists on the same stage.

“I’m proud because we have star power in our own backyard. There’s no need to look outwardly,” Dorrough said.

Dorrough gained national attention in the late 2000s with records including “Ice Cream Paint Job” and “Walk That Walk,” becoming one of the artists most closely associated with Dallas rap during that period. With Dorrough & Friends, he joined artists from different generations for a hometown-focused showcase.

“I wanted to give flowers to the legends. I wanted to give opportunities to the new artists. And I wanted to shine a light on the superstars,” Dorrough said.

One of the evening’s notable moments was a tribute to the late Mo3, the Dallas rapper whose music continues to resonate with local audiences. Co Gotti, Mo3’s brother, joined Dorrough onstage during the remembrance, which took place days before what would have been Mo3’s birthday.

The tribute reflected one of the concert’s central themes: recognizing artists who have contributed to Dallas music while providing a platform for newer performers.

The event also included emerging talent gaining attention online, including JhonnieDamnD, whose “BEND” content has circulated on TikTok and Instagram. His appearance alongside veteran Texas artists reflected the concert’s multigenerational format.

Following the event, attendees shared clips, photos and reactions on social media. Dorrough later thanked those who attended and supported the concert.

“It was a huge success, and it was a huge success because of y’all,” Dorrough said.

No future edition has been formally announced. However, the inaugural Dorrough & Friends brought artists from multiple eras together for an event centered on Dallas and Texas hip-hop.

Dorrough & Friends was supported by sponsors, partners, artists and community supporters, including Ben Abbott & Associates.
