Dallas is making its mark on the international stage through the leadership of four women who were recently inducted into roles supporting initiatives of the Ghana Tourism Federation (GHATOF).

The appointments were made under the leadership of Seth Yeboah Ocran, President of the Ghana Tourism Federation (GHATOF) and CEO of YOKS Rent A Car. Ocran, a respected entrepreneur and tourism industry leader, has championed initiatives that strengthen international partnerships, expand diaspora engagement, and elevate Ghana’s global tourism profile. Under his leadership, GHATOF continues to build strategic relationships between Ghana and stakeholders around the world, including business leaders, tourism professionals, media organizations, and members of the African diaspora.

The induction of Dr. Cheryl Polote Williamson, Swan Lee, Dr. Grace Darko, and Megan Williams reflects that vision. By bringing accomplished Dallas-based leaders into advisory and committee roles, Ocran is helping establish stronger connections between Ghana and one of America’s most influential business and cultural centers. Their collective leadership has the potential to drive tourism growth, business development, cultural diplomacy, and economic collaboration between Ghana and the United States for years to come.

While all four women represent Dallas’ growing influence in international tourism, business, and cultural engagement, Dr. Cheryl Polote Williamson and Swan Lee will serve in particularly visible leadership capacities.

Dr. Williamson was appointed as an Advisor to the Ghana Tourism Federation, becoming the first American woman to serve in this advisory role. Swan Lee was sworn into GHATOF’s Marketing & Public Relations Committee, where she will help guide strategic marketing, stakeholder engagement, partnership development, and international visibility efforts for the organization.

Their appointments, alongside those of Dr. Grace Darko and Megan Williams, represent far more than individual recognition. Together, these four women form a powerful Dallas-based presence within a growing international network dedicated to advancing tourism, cultural diplomacy, economic development, and diaspora engagement between Ghana and the United States.

    Strengthening U.S.-Ghana Relations

Over the last two decades, Ghana has emerged as one of Africa’s leading destinations for tourism, investment, and diaspora engagement. Through initiatives designed to attract visitors, investors, entrepreneurs, and members of the global African diaspora, the country has strengthened its economic and cultural ties with the United States.

Organizations such as the Ghana Tourism Federation play a critical role in advancing that vision by developing partnerships, promoting tourism opportunities, and creating pathways for collaboration across industries and borders.

The involvement of Dallas leaders within these efforts signals a growing relationship between Ghana and one of America’s most dynamic metropolitan regions.

    Why This Matters for Dallas

The significance of these appointments extends well beyond the individuals involved.

    Dallas as a Gateway City

Dallas is one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the United States and serves as a major hub for business, media, transportation, technology, sports, and entrepreneurship. It is also home to a vibrant and growing African and African American community.

Having four Dallas women involved in leadership and advisory capacities connected to Ghana’s tourism ecosystem creates opportunities to strengthen tourism, trade, cultural exchange, and business development between the two regions.

These relationships can help position Dallas as a gateway city for U.S.-Africa engagement while increasing opportunities for travel, investment, and international partnerships.

    Expanding Diaspora Engagement

One of the most important aspects of these appointments is their potential to strengthen connections between Ghana and the African diaspora.

Through their relationships with businesses, media organizations, community leaders, nonprofits, and entrepreneurs, Williamson, Lee, Darko, and Williams bring valuable perspectives that can help foster deeper engagement between Ghana and communities throughout Texas and the broader Southern United States.

    Economic Development Opportunities

International tourism often serves as a catalyst for broader economic growth.

Stronger relationships between Dallas and Ghana can create opportunities for business delegations, trade missions, educational partnerships, cultural exchanges, conferences, tourism initiatives, and investment opportunities that benefit both communities.

As cities increasingly compete in a global economy, these kinds of international relationships can help generate long-term economic value while creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs, organizations, and institutions on both sides of the Atlantic.

    Elevating Dallas’ Global Profile

The appointments of Williamson, Lee, Darko, and Williams reinforce Dallas’ growing influence beyond North Texas.

Their involvement demonstrates that Dallas leaders are helping shape conversations around global tourism, international branding, diaspora engagement, and economic development. It also highlights the city’s emergence as a connector between Africa and the United States.

    A Powerful Dallas Presence

The collective expertise represented by these four women spans entrepreneurship, tourism, marketing, media, leadership development, community engagement, and international business.

Swan Lee brings extensive experience in experiential marketing, media partnerships, tourism promotion, and global relationship building. Dr. Cheryl Polote Williamson contributes decades of leadership, civic engagement, entrepreneurship, and international business experience. Alongside Dr. Grace Darko and Megan Williams, they create a formidable Dallas-based presence capable of fostering meaningful connections between governments, businesses, tourism leaders, and communities.

Their appointments represent more than a personal achievement. They symbolize the growing role Dallas can play in shaping international partnerships and strengthening economic and cultural connections between Ghana and the United States.

As Ghana continues to expand its global tourism footprint, the leadership of these four women serves as a reminder that meaningful international relationships are often built through people willing to bridge communities, create opportunities, and envision a future that extends beyond borders.
