    Bluecore Energy has raised $10 million in an oversubscribed pre-seed round to develop floating small modular nuclear reactors for ports, data centers, and other coastal infrastructure.

    The round was led by Slauson & Co., with participation from Harlem Capital, Precursor Ventures, LMNT Ventures, Chris Larsen, Michael Brune’s Clean Break Fund, Visible Hands, Karman Ventures, Capital Factory, Share Ventures, X&, Markham Valley Ventures and HartBeat Ventures.

    The new funding will support construction of the company’s first reactor system and accelerate product development at its headquarters in the Port of Long Beach.

    Bluecore Energy is Delivering Energy Infrastructure in Days

    Founded in January 2026 by former Uber executive Kofi Asante, Bluecore Energy is developing compact nuclear reactors designed to operate from floating platforms rather than permanent land-based facilities.

    Asante says ports, factories, data centers and other critical facilities need reliable, around-the-clock power, but expanding traditional energy infrastructure can take years. Bluecore’s approach is to use proven nuclear technology on floating platforms that can be deployed close to where electricity is needed. 

    Rather than waiting years for new transmission lines and supporting infrastructure, Bluecore says its floating reactor systems can be deployed and begin delivering power in a matter of days.

    “My team and I took nuclear reactor technology that’s been powering plants safely for 70 years, scaled it down, and put it on a barge. A power plant that floats,” Asante said. By building reactors on barges, the company aims to simplify deployment logistics and allow units to be relocated to areas facing power shortages or recovering from natural disasters. 

    “We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to democratize access to zero-emission maritime nuclear energy,” said Asante. Bluecore Energy’s first 10 MWe system can power the equivalent of about 15,000 homes, or scale to meet the needs of a major port.

    Designed to run for years on a single fuel load, the reactor can also be paired with others to provide a new power source for ports, utilities, data centers, offshore infrastructure, and communities facing energy constraints. 

    The company views this initial system as the first step in a broader maritime vision. Over time, the Long Beach-based company believes the same underlying technology could also power cargo ships. 

    Bluecore’s Rapid Progress Since Launch

    The company has already delivered its first barge and electric test reactor to its headquarters at the Port of Long Beach. It is now the first small modular reactor company to establish headquarters inside a major U.S. port.

    “There is no better place to launch the next generation of zero-emission maritime energy than the world’s first Green Port,” Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson said. “Long Beach has always been where global trade meets innovation, and today we’re becoming the place where the technologies that will power the future of the maritime economy are developed.” 

    The Port of Long Beach is one of the busiest container ports in the United States, handling more than 9 million container units and about $300 billion in cargo each year. More than 90 percent of global trade moves by sea, and nuclear energy already provides roughly 20 percent of electricity in the United States. 

    Bluecore says it has made rapid operational progress since launch. In less than six months, the company secured a port terminal, acquired a barge, obtained a test pressure vessel, and began construction of its nuclear reactor. 

    The team brings together engineers and operators from some of the most demanding programs in aerospace, defense, automotive, and maritime. That includes SpaceX, Blue Origin, Northrop Grumman, Toyota, and Uber, as well as U.S. Navy nuclear submarine officers and a licensing advisor who has personally certified multiple operating reactors with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

    Encore Energy will use the new funding from the oversubscribed financing round to support the development of its technology and the commercialization of its roadmap.
