BEAMS has united a unique cohort of cultural tastemakers in Japan, and now, it’s spotlighting its community with a book series called “I AM BEAM.” Each book, authored by members of the BEAMS team, dials in on employees’ interests, showing off their unique perspectives. Shigero Kaneko, Chief Buyer of BEAMS, began to build his universe on the pages of “OUTDOOR EXPEDITION BOOK 99,” as part of the series. Now, BEAMS brings the exploratory essence of the book off the pages, through an experiential exhibition called “EXPEDITION CLUB PORTLAND.”Previous EXHIBITION CLUB events brought Kaneko’s personal collection of down jackets and vintage outerwear to Tokyo, London, New York, and Osaka, but the latest edition focuses on mountain parkas and the broader evolution of outdoor apparel over time. Portland, Oregon is a holy grail destination for hiking and outdoor recreation, providing the ideal backdrop for an event celebrating the roots of outdoor culture. At the exhibition, guests can expect a display of Kaneko’s carefully sourced outdoor clothing, opportunities to connect with members of the “Outdoor Recreation Archive” from Utah State University and the chance to explore historic catalogs. Visitors can also acquire a special “Expedition Club Badge” upon entry to commemorate the occasion.BEAMS’ EXPEDITION CLUB PORTLAND will take place on April 8 and 9 at the Functional Fabric Fair Spring 2026 edition at the Oregon Convention Center, from 9-5 pm PDT each day. To attend, you must pre-register for free at functionalfabricfair.com.BEAMS EXPEDITION CLUBOregon Convention Center777 NE Martin Luther King Jr BlvdPortland, OR 97232
