Adam Blackstone, Phylicia Fant, and Robert “Don Pooh” Cummins among this year’s honorees at the July 12 ceremony in Wilmington, Delaware

The HBCU Week Foundation has announced the honorees and co-hosts for its 7th Annual Awards Gala, taking place July 12 at the historic Hotel DuPont in Wilmington, Delaware. HBCU Week Foundation founder Ashley Christopher Anthony and Emmy Award-winning actor and Golden Globe nominee Anthony Anderson will share hosting duties for the evening.

This year’s honorees span music, business, and culture. Grammy and Emmy winner Adam Blackstone receives the Trailblazer Award. As one of entertainment’s most in-demand musical architects, Blackstone has served as music director for Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake, and Queen Latifah, led productions for the Oscars, Grammy Awards, and multiple Super Bowl Halftime Shows, and earned a Tony nomination and Grammy Award for his work on Broadway’s Hell’s Kitchen.

The Leadership Award goes to Phylicia Fant, Global Director of Black Music and Culture at Amazon Music. A Spelman College alumna, Fant has spearheaded initiatives connecting artists, brands, and audiences worldwide, with partnerships spanning Beyoncé, Usher, Janelle Monáe, and Jon Batiste. Her influence has been recognized by Billboard, Variety, Forbes, and Essence.

Robert “Don Pooh” Cummins receives the Living Legacy Award. A longtime architect of hip-hop culture, Cummins worked alongside Jay-Z and The Notorious B.I.G., discovered and managed Foxy Brown, and oversaw Mary J. Blige’s Grammy-winning No More Drama as Executive Vice President of MCA Records. He is today the driving force behind the Brooklyn Chop House brand and the Brooklyn Dumpling Shop franchise.

Robert O. Wright III rounds out the honorees with the Rising Star Award, recognized for his achievements as an NCAA Division I student-athlete and emerging leader.

“This year’s honorees have not only achieved extraordinary success in their respective fields, but they have also opened doors, created opportunities, and inspired the next generation of leaders,” said Anthony. “Their stories reflect the transformative power of excellence and the enduring legacy of the HBCU community.”

The evening will include a red carpet reception, special tributes, live entertainment, and additional programming to be announced.
